Each year I spend some time in the summer at our family cabin in northern Minnesota. It is always special to me, and there are few places I’ve been to that mean so much. This August, my boyfriend, Danny, joined the party. Can’t stop thinking about fishing in a canoe with that one. Seeing my family before leaving the country was a good call. Minnesota, I like you and your lakes.

Before leaving Colorado, we made sure to get a few hours outside of Denver. We drove to Redstone and Marble. As a girl who spent approximately four months hunting down the perfect marble coffee table, I can say with confidence that being in a town where giant slabs of the stone casually appear under shrubbery, in the creek, as basketball court benches was one of the best experiences ever. Dozens of sculptors work on pieces under pitched tents… power-drilling and chiseling away- so neat. We couldn’t breach the gate of the Marble quarry at the top of the mountain, but we did have a picnic spread overlooking the hills and forrest. And then there was that rainbow. Preeeetty magical.

This is a chain-nomination and award given to new and upcoming blogs. Each person who is awarded has to answer 11 questions and then nominate another blogger. Thank you so much, Cori for nominating me! I’ve been loving your blog (and friendship) since day one. Loving it big time.
1. Where did the inspiration for your blog come from?
A combination of reading other lifestyle blogs and feeling like the things I was seeing and doing could be categorized and preserved, and eventually, shared. It takes a lot of energy to be obsessed with so many things, I wanted a space for those things. The title comes from Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night.
2. Favorite Pastime?
Picking raspberries with my cousins at our family cabin in Minnesota. Super bonus is putting them straight into the pancake batter.
3. Favorite Song?
“God” by John Lennon. The Beatles were the first band I ever cared about. “I don’t believe in Beatles, I just believe in me.” Daggers in the heart. Love it so much… That song just MOVES ME.
4. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Small cottage with a garden in Bath, UK. Or anywhere in the UK with some greenery.
5. Dream hairstyle?
This. Mia Farrow’s hair in Rosemary’s Baby before she cuts it. I know, I know. I’m doing it wrong.
6. If you could speak to your 13 year old self, what would you say?
Stop slamming the door.
7. Who is your ideal dinner date?
Jimmy Stewart! Hands down.
8. Favorite Disney character?
Wendy from Peter Pan. I’m pretty sure she’s in her nightgown the whole movie (and she lives in London).
9. If you were a flower, what would you be?
Lily of the valley.
10. Best meal you’ve ever eaten?
Breakfast at Hatch & Sons in Dublin. Local and fresh, traditional Irish food. Window seat in the rain. I think about it on a weekly basis.
11. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Accepting certain things as they are and getting over them. It’s all worth it.
I now nominate Abigail and Allie from A.Payne! A blog written by cousins/besties mostly about fashion. Staring breathtaking photos of the beauties themselves and some no-shame sex confessions. Uplifting and honest. What else do you need?

Whenever I visit my aunt in Colorado I never, ever want to leave that place! Denver is seriously so cool it hurts. Last week I hiked, maintained a regular sleep schedule, partook in an herbal tinctures class (we imagined lab coats and goggles…we were wrong), ate fresh vegetables from the garden, spent way too long in Innisfree Poetry Bookstore in Boulder, got reprimanded for sneaking photos of the Tom Wessleman exhibition at the Denver Art Museum, and drove through windy, rainy mountains in Golden. More importantly, spending any time at all with my aunt feels like a spiritual retreat (she has degrees in horticulture and chinese medicine, is a practicing acupuncturist and full time nurse at a center for juvenile boys- where she started a book club….. you get the idea.) with a good bit of hysterical laughter. Nothing better.
