The cocktail was born in Italy in 1919, but looks better than ever right now. Not that it hasn’t been cool before, you know you’re hot shit when Frederico Fellini directs a commercial celebrating you. Well, it was actually a campari commercial, but considering a Negroni would be nothing without Campari, it still seems valid to bring up. The negroni is simple: equal parts gin, Campari, and vermouth. It’s garnished with an orange peel and served in a tumbler. Bitter + a little sweet + very pretty = a summer do.
Hip, hip, hooray! It’s summer. Celebrate accordingly.

So many good things about summer, but mostly peach season. Last Saturday morning, I took Danny to the Peach Stand— which is exactly what it sounds like, a stand that sells locally grown peaches and produce in the heart of Fort Mill (aka my hometown). It was so fun to show him a little piece of where I grew up. Hope your weekend is sweet and sunny!
I may or may not have eaten two peaches while typing this.

It’s not too hard to mess up doughnuts, but it is not easy to make a perfect doughnut. (Does that sound like bad advice printed in a fortune cookie? Maybe.) More or less, that’s my attitude regarding the breakfast confection. Lucky for everyone living or passing through Asheville, NC– all you have to do is drive (or bike) to HOLE doughnuts. It is one of those shops you’ll keep thinking of long after you’ve left it’s sunny picnic tables.
HOLE makes their doughnuts fresh to order meaning you get them hot. The doughnuts are light and a little crispy on the outside– similar to beignets (apparently? I’ve actually never had a beignet…) and though appearing relatively simple (less is more!), the flavors were balanced and exciting. Think toasted sesame seeds and spices. We ordered coffees and one of each doughnut (they only offer four flavors a day) and each one was great. Like really great. So yumz.
Where is your favorite doughnut shop? Asking for a friend.
p.s. Stay tuned for an Asheville Weekend Guide.
p.p.s. How cute are Corey & Sav?

If you’re looking for ways to spend a morning in the city, consider visiting the Elizabeth Street Garden tucked in Nolita. It is the perfect oasis between shopping and brunching. Bring a blanket and spend an hour reading (conveniently located near McNally Johnson, if you’re empty handed) underneath a trees or quickly stroll through the .46 acres of green space if you’re pressed for time.
New York City parks and gardens are magical in the summer, but it’s little ones like these that make turning a corner on a crowded neighborhood incredibly rewarding.
The garden offers various events throughout the week and weekend, which you can read about here. Unfortunately, housing construction plans are a threat, but by signing this letter and spreading the news you can make a difference.
What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday morning? Any favorite parks? Let me know.
Now get out there! It’s summer.
