Today officially marks the first day of summer! June has felt like the watermelon emoji brought to life. I’ve been living in my swimsuit and feeling bursts of inspiration and motivation brought on by sunshine and working remotely.  (Pool for coffee break= yes yes yes!)

Morning Routine ft. Glossier

October 7, 2015 § Leave a comment

My morning routine is wake up, do face, drink coffee.

It’s not complicated. The face part is less complicated than the coffee part. Getting ready for the day is crazy easy because I use the Glossier trio which takes about twenty seconds.

GlossyGish

Some time ago, I found a bizarre Chicago Tribune article from the ’50’s where Lillian Gish, silent film star extraordinare, described her beauty routine. It included ideas like a “Beer Cure” diet to gain weight that I completely disregarded. It also mentioned Gish uses almond oil regularly before bed– something she learned from her mother. The image stuck with me.

Flash forward to learning about Emily Weiss’s initiative to found Glossier (A year ago!) out of her beauty obsession. I met Weiss in L.A. during their Santa Monica pop-up shop. She was a joy and a pleasure and the coolest of the cool.  She told me moisturizing was the most important part of a skincare routine. I left with the entire line of products and, have since, never gone a day without them.

Whenever I use Glossier’s Moon Mask, I wonder What is in this Witchcraft? It’s like a cozy blanket for my face. What’s in it is a lot of goodness, but the first main ingredient is almond oil. My beauty destiny has come full circle! Kind of an irrational though as almond oil is in all sorts of skincare products… but still.. The Moon Mask makes me feel like I could, if I felt like it, conquer the silver screen.

And here is where I realize I’ve written an entire post about my morning routine on the face mask I use each night. What? Oops? But f’real, it is the product I’d recomend most from the list of my favorites below. They’re amazing. Buy them all so you can be just like me! Jk. But if you’re looking for change, this list is a good place to start.

Spring Edit.

April 20, 2015 § 2 Comments

Crazy rainy in the Carolina’s lately. The pressure is on, May. Bloom beautifully. Anyway… we’re headed to the beach this week! Here’s some of what I like and love for Spring, Summer, and the ocean.

4MAY

1. Zara embroidered topI fell in love with this whimsical beauty the second I saw it. 2. Film. I’m excited to take a break from digital as I recently dug up an old Canon AL-1 and Polaroid 600…Also found these shots of Lauren and I frolicking in Cocoa Beach circa 2008! 3. Beatrice Pink Metallic Sunglasses. These should come with a convertible and a silk scarf. So fun! 4.Yield Design French PressThe ceramic body and copper top of this French press feels bright and clean. 5. Byredo La Tulipe Perfume Tulips remind me of a person who reminds me that life is precious. Byredo for the win with beautiful fragrances. 6. Mango Fringe Linen Poncho. Way, way good for words. 7. Books. Kelly Link’s Get In Trouble and Karen Solie’s The Road In Is Not The Same Road Out are at the top of my list. 8.Black Hole Creations Palmistry Necklace. Etsy is awesome because a girl in France can make this amazing piece and ship it over like its nbd. 9. Zara Two Tone Wide Brimmed HatI know about five people who need this hat. Goes straw hat to chic hat real quick (Drake Voice). 10. Vintage Green Suede Boxy HandbagAnother Etsy find! I was doubting the suede in the summer look this season until this structured little bag won me over. 11. Nars Lip Pencil in Cruella + Rikugien. Birthday gifts are awesome, but early birthday gifts from Sephora are super awesome! Nars is a favorite splurge, so I’m looking forward to these May 1st.

Now…. More book recommendations, please!

Smoke Perfume

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetScent is the tell-all sense- the hostess with the mostess that has nostalgia on speed dial and an uncanny ability to make you an IRL mood ring. I lurv it. My favorite scent in the world is blowing out candles on a birthday cake.  Something about the wax and the wick and the sugar and smoke. ( & obviously, the excitement happening around birthday cakes!) That moment makes my heart go boom.

But since I don’t want to smell like a birthday cake throughout my daily routine (or ever), I tend to alternate between different perfumes for different occasions. I do not wear perfume on a daily basis, but I think about buying a new perfume on a daily basis because I really, really like it. So add that up.

Here’s what I’m saying: scent matters. It affects your mood, the way you walk through the doors, and it is pretty to look at. So when I won an Instagram giveaway for a gift box containing hand-made, artisan perfume from a southern city with a distinct history and heart, I felt crazy excited and grateful.
Smoke Perfume is hand-made in New Orleans. You can read about its start here, and if you are a decent person you’ll appreciate the sentiment of investing so much care into a product that emphasizes place and soul while using natural ingredients to do it. It’s made by people who care for people who care….and I like that a lot.

My box (complete with a matchbox, candle, perfume, and magic wand- jk a stick of palo santo but basically the same thing) was sent with priority mail and hand-written tag. The scent is earthy but not too heavy (it’s vetiver based with jasmine and citrus) and is quite calming. The candle is actual heaven and I’ll be rationing its burn time…. not to mention ordering another as soon as it becomes less of a candle and more of an empty jar.

Good things come in well-designed packages. I’m a happy girl.

Thank you Kathleen!

It’s a warm Monday morning in SC & my little writing space feels extra cozy. What gets me through mornings lately: coffee, herbal tinctures, and certain skin care products. I’m a sucker for Witch Hazel and pretty packaging, so this toner is my new bff. I’m more of a sucker for flowers, especially when they’re clipped from our front yard! Spring time, I see you!
