It’s not too hard to mess up doughnuts, but it is not easy to make a perfect doughnut. (Does that sound like bad advice printed in a fortune cookie? Maybe.)  More or less, that’s my attitude regarding the breakfast confection.  Lucky for everyone living or passing through Asheville, NC– all you have to do is drive (or bike) to HOLE doughnuts. It is one of those shops you’ll keep thinking of long after you’ve left it’s sunny picnic tables.

HOLE makes their doughnuts fresh to order meaning you get them hot. The doughnuts are light and a little crispy on the outside– similar to beignets (apparently? I’ve actually never had a beignet…) and though appearing relatively simple (less is more!), the flavors were balanced and exciting. Think toasted sesame seeds and spices. We ordered coffees and one of each doughnut (they only offer four flavors a day) and each one was great. Like really great. So yumz.

Where is your favorite doughnut shop? Asking for a friend.

p.p.s. How cute are Corey & Sav?

Two Hands

Some brunch inspiration for this weekend: Two Hands!  I’ve been wanting to try the  popular spot since I moved here, and I finally went last Saturday.

Two Hands is an Australian breakfast joint (I can count the number of times I’ve used the term ‘breakfast joint. Just once, just now.) known for its charming ambiance (clouds !!!! adorable little hanging clouds!!!) and healthy menu (fresh juices, superfood bowls, avo toast).

Last weekend had a bit of bizarre weather- cloudy, rainy mornings, heavy wind mixed with sunshine,  freezing temps overnight. Aka everything to make my Spring Post look like a cruel April Fools joke…. Brunching here was the perfect choice for an instant boost of cheer.  So colorful and bright. *Scours Pinterest for an illuminating cloud DIY tutorial.*

Caffè Florian

In 1720, Floriano Francesconi opened a caffè in Venice’s Piazza San Marco… And it’s beautiful. Pretty astonishing that nearly three-hundred years later, the caffè still stands and is recognized as one of Venice’s gems.

I knew I’d at least have to sit in one of the oldest cafes in Europe, but I don’t think I quite prepared myself for what I was actually going to drink I ordered just the Bicerin (coffee, chocolate, and cream) and was full when I left. That stuff is thick.

I’m a firm believer in the power of coffee, and where you drink it can be just as important as the caffeine itself. Today I’m not in a seventeenth century landmark. I’m somewhat buried in work, school, and various creative projects. I’m tired. It’s Monday. My apartment is definitely not emblazoned with golden cherubs, but it is perfectly okay. Just photos of this place calms me.

Yellow Dog Bread Co.

December 2, 2015 § 1 Comment

I was back home in the Carolinas last week for the holidays and spent the entire time sleeping in and eating poultry with my love. Tough life. I also had plenty of time to visit all my favorite shops and some newbies (Holder Goods & Crafts! Woo!). I love Raleigh because it feels like a wonderfully kept secret (even though it’s one of the fastest growing city in America). Somehow, I had never been to Yellow Dog Bread Co., so Danny suggested we go. I regret not buying bread for our Thanksgiving table or at least a dozen toasted-coconut almond scones for the road, but maybe next time. Here are some photos of Yellow Dog because I had to pass along the pretty.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset On the windiest day of May*, Elle and I strolled Kiawah with good intentions. And magazines, books, towels, hats. It’s a wonder we didn’t blow away… Or seek shelter in this whimsically primitive dune tee-pee photographed below. Spring Edit.

April 20, 2015 § 2 Comments

Crazy rainy in the Carolina’s lately. The pressure is on, May. Bloom beautifully. Anyway… we’re headed to the beach this week! Here’s some of what I like and love for Spring, Summer, and the ocean.

4MAY

1. Zara embroidered topI fell in love with this whimsical beauty the second I saw it. 2. Film. I’m excited to take a break from digital as I recently dug up an old Canon AL-1 and Polaroid 600…Also found these shots of Lauren and I frolicking in Cocoa Beach circa 2008! 3. Beatrice Pink Metallic Sunglasses. These should come with a convertible and a silk scarf. So fun! 4.Yield Design French PressThe ceramic body and copper top of this French press feels bright and clean. 5. Byredo La Tulipe Perfume Tulips remind me of a person who reminds me that life is precious. Byredo for the win with beautiful fragrances. 6. Mango Fringe Linen Poncho. Way, way good for words. 7. Books. Kelly Link’s Get In Trouble and Karen Solie’s The Road In Is Not The Same Road Out are at the top of my list. 8.Black Hole Creations Palmistry Necklace. Etsy is awesome because a girl in France can make this amazing piece and ship it over like its nbd. 9. Zara Two Tone Wide Brimmed HatI know about five people who need this hat. Goes straw hat to chic hat real quick (Drake Voice). 10. Vintage Green Suede Boxy HandbagAnother Etsy find! I was doubting the suede in the summer look this season until this structured little bag won me over. 11. Nars Lip Pencil in Cruella + Rikugien. Birthday gifts are awesome, but early birthday gifts from Sephora are super awesome! Nars is a favorite splurge, so I’m looking forward to these May 1st.

Now…. More book recommendations, please!

It’s a warm Monday morning in SC & my little writing space feels extra cozy. What gets me through mornings lately: coffee, herbal tinctures, and certain skin care products. I’m a sucker for Witch Hazel and pretty packaging, so this toner is my new bff. I’m more of a sucker for flowers, especially when they’re clipped from our front yard! Spring time, I see you!
