Earlier this year, Corey and Savannah relocated to Asheville, NC. Which makes me depressed every time I get off the 77 St. Subway stop/ walk anywhere remotely close to their old Upper East Side apartment. It’s fair to say their home in Asheville is 500x the size of aforementioned apartment.
I took some snapshots of their new spot when I visited this summer, and it feels cruel to keep it from the world. I MEAN LOOK AT THIS PLACE.

It’s not too hard to mess up doughnuts, but it is not easy to make a perfect doughnut. (Does that sound like bad advice printed in a fortune cookie? Maybe.) More or less, that’s my attitude regarding the breakfast confection. Lucky for everyone living or passing through Asheville, NC– all you have to do is drive (or bike) to HOLE doughnuts. It is one of those shops you’ll keep thinking of long after you’ve left it’s sunny picnic tables.
HOLE makes their doughnuts fresh to order meaning you get them hot. The doughnuts are light and a little crispy on the outside– similar to beignets (apparently? I’ve actually never had a beignet…) and though appearing relatively simple (less is more!), the flavors were balanced and exciting. Think toasted sesame seeds and spices. We ordered coffees and one of each doughnut (they only offer four flavors a day) and each one was great. Like really great. So yumz.
Where is your favorite doughnut shop? Asking for a friend.
p.s. Stay tuned for an Asheville Weekend Guide.
p.p.s. How cute are Corey & Sav?

I was back home in the Carolinas last week for the holidays and spent the entire time sleeping in and eating poultry with my love. Tough life. I also had plenty of time to visit all my favorite shops and some newbies (Holder Goods & Crafts! Woo!). I love Raleigh because it feels like a wonderfully kept secret (even though it’s one of the fastest growing city in America). Somehow, I had never been to Yellow Dog Bread Co., so Danny suggested we go. I regret not buying bread for our Thanksgiving table or at least a dozen toasted-coconut almond scones for the road, but maybe next time. Here are some photos of Yellow Dog because I had to pass along the pretty.

Raleigh makes me happy. Not just because my boyfriend live there, which probably helps, but because it’s a great city. I went for a long weekend in October and it was perfect timing. Weather, food, friends, errythang good… We stopped by all our favorite spots- coffee shops (Brew, Morning Times), restaurants (Beasley’s, Joule, Busy Bee, the Pit) (lots of comfort food for real), and did some fall festivities involving pumpkins and scary movies. How easy it is to miss the South when you’re away from it!
I brought my camera along and only managed to take photos over drinks at Bittersweet (they were pretty!), a random pumpkin patch photo, and some street views. If i was smarter I would have taken a photo of my “Eggs Beasley’s” at brunch. My bad.

Mornings as of late? Close to perfect. By now, spring is basically summer in Charleston and I can’t remember feeling so warm (and dare I say it- calm) in far too long. My twenty-first birthday kicked off the first day of the month and the invisible, twinkly, birthday magic hasn’t exactly stopped. I don’t know why. I keep telling it to stop. But things, right now, 100% rule. I have finally recovered from the exam week from hell, where I briefly hated being awake in the morning, since they were not entirely mornings but nights rolling into the next day, all of which were soul-sucking and awful. And like all difficult things, it ended quicker than I could continue to continue to cry over it. Since, everything feels beyond shocking in its simplicity. Mornings are laying in bed with actually nothing to do…for hours…but bask in the emptiness, and freedom, of that feeling. I’ve had mornings at work, mornings in cafés, mornings at barre classes, mornings on a yoga mat, mornings oversleeping, mornings in Raleigh full of love & coffee & listening to Danny practice keyboards or guitar or sing that new Usher single, mornings on the beach with cocktails & hung over, happy people, mornings celebrating my mom & all mothers, mornings celebrating me. And I don’t why it matters, but it all does.

Something that happened this week: My bff and I stood outside the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC staring at our twitter feeds wondering why Miley Cyrus was, believe it or not, canceling her show twenty minutes before doors. I would not identify us as “Smilers”, but we were pretty excited. We just wanna see Miley ride a giant hot dog, y’all!!!! Give us what we want!!! Although it was a pretty major disappointment after driving three hours, requesting off work, skipping a Brit. Lit. course, and having a 6am drive the following morning– it was still a fun night with a girl I love in a city we don’t explore too often. I may not have returned back to Charleston with a T-shirt of Miley licking an ice cream cone, but I had extra time to spend with my dad, my mom, and real ice cream. So there. *sobs and rips up Bangerz ticket*
My advice to Miley: if you’re in “excruciating pain”, let a girl know before she’s uptown wearing acid washed high-waisted denim.
