Happy birthday, America! We (my grandmother and I!) spent our holiday weekend watching orange-pink sunsets & bursts of fireworks along the beach, playing dominoes until bed time, and chatting over coffee in the morning.
Today, we’re people watching & on the lookout for more fireworks. Holy hibiscus, Ccocoa Beach is beautiful in summer!
Hope you have a Happy 4th!

It’s not too hard to mess up doughnuts, but it is not easy to make a perfect doughnut. (Does that sound like bad advice printed in a fortune cookie? Maybe.) More or less, that’s my attitude regarding the breakfast confection. Lucky for everyone living or passing through Asheville, NC– all you have to do is drive (or bike) to HOLE doughnuts. It is one of those shops you’ll keep thinking of long after you’ve left it’s sunny picnic tables.
HOLE makes their doughnuts fresh to order meaning you get them hot. The doughnuts are light and a little crispy on the outside– similar to beignets (apparently? I’ve actually never had a beignet…) and though appearing relatively simple (less is more!), the flavors were balanced and exciting. Think toasted sesame seeds and spices. We ordered coffees and one of each doughnut (they only offer four flavors a day) and each one was great. Like really great. So yumz.
Where is your favorite doughnut shop? Asking for a friend.

If you’re looking for ways to spend a morning in the city, consider visiting the Elizabeth Street Garden tucked in Nolita. It is the perfect oasis between shopping and brunching. Bring a blanket and spend an hour reading (conveniently located near McNally Johnson, if you’re empty handed) underneath a trees or quickly stroll through the .46 acres of green space if you’re pressed for time.
New York City parks and gardens are magical in the summer, but it’s little ones like these that make turning a corner on a crowded neighborhood incredibly rewarding.
The garden offers various events throughout the week and weekend, which you can read about here. Unfortunately, housing construction plans are a threat, but by signing this letter and spreading the news you can make a difference.
What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday morning? Any favorite parks? Let me know.
Now get out there! It’s summer.

Some brunch inspiration for this weekend: Two Hands! I’ve been wanting to try the popular spot since I moved here, and I finally went last Saturday.
Two Hands is an Australian breakfast joint (I can count the number of times I’ve used the term ‘breakfast joint. Just once, just now.) known for its charming ambiance (clouds !!!! adorable little hanging clouds!!!) and healthy menu (fresh juices, superfood bowls, avo toast).
Last weekend had a bit of bizarre weather- cloudy, rainy mornings, heavy wind mixed with sunshine, freezing temps overnight. Aka everything to make my Spring Post look like a cruel April Fools joke…. Brunching here was the perfect choice for an instant boost of cheer. So colorful and bright. *Scours Pinterest for an illuminating cloud DIY tutorial.*

In 1720, Floriano Francesconi opened a caffè in Venice’s Piazza San Marco… And it’s beautiful. Pretty astonishing that nearly three-hundred years later, the caffè still stands and is recognized as one of Venice’s gems.
I knew I’d at least have to sit in one of the oldest cafes in Europe, but I don’t think I quite prepared myself for what I was actually going to drink. I ordered just the Bicerin (coffee, chocolate, and cream) and was full when I left. That stuff is thick.
I’m a firm believer in the power of coffee, and where you drink it can be just as important as the caffeine itself. Today I’m not in a seventeenth century landmark. I’m somewhat buried in work, school, and various creative projects. I’m tired. It’s Monday. My apartment is definitely not emblazoned with golden cherubs, but it is perfectly okay. Just photos of this place calms me.
Where is your favorite place to have coffee? Favorite shop? Let me know.

Sometimes on a Monday morning during Winter, it helps to think about the beach. I already posted some ocean photos of my time visiting my Grandmother in Cocoa Beach in January, but here are even more tropical photos. I’ll let them do the talking. Have a great week, everyone!
^^^ Best for last! Love you, Nana! ^^^
