Venice has an astonishing palette: pastels mixed with blues mixed with grays. I visited in the cold spring, and I’m now turning to those colors to get me through the cold winter (it is coming, I can feel it).

It snowed on Friday morning, and by three o’clock it had completely melted. For my first winter in NY– it has been a bit underwhelming. A couple big snows, a couple cold V COLD weekends, but overall not too bad. Here are some photos from a beautiful snowday in February. Bliss.

I’m from Fort Mill, South Carolina. Fort. Mill. South. Carolina. We don’t get two feet of snow. Ever. Waking up Saturday morning to the first
real snow blizzard of the season was blissful. It literally happened one morning. All at once. Suddenly winter! I read a lot, made some candles, drank some coffee, talked on the phone, and frantically checked the front lawn every half hour to see that, yes, indeed, the snow was still falling. P.S. The Panthers are Super Bowl Bound. #BestWeekendEver
^^^ Some photos I took on an 8am walk, you know, before it continued to snow heavily for a solid sixteen more hours.
What is your favorite way to spend a snowy morning? As always, I’m curious.

How calming is the ocean? These photos from a hazy sunset last week fill me with such peace. One resolution in 2016 is to pay more attention to my senses. Reading A Natural History of the Senses by Diane Ackerman has everything to do with this!!! And finally accepting that I’m addicted to my phone, which is pointless.
I just spent a week in Cocoa Beach, FL visiting my grandmother. It rained all but two days, so I didn’t get as many freckles as I usually do when hitting the beach and pool. We played hours of dominoes and card games each night, and a week away with someone I love so much made the whole world disappear. No better way to start a new year.
Hopefully this year will be full of paying more attention to my surroundings. Feeling the ocean, hearing the birds, hugging my grandmother, tasting coconut macroons, smelling the coffee. It helps if this coffee is on a balcony overlooking tropical plants and the shore. Just taking it all in.

So I launched a little candle line in November on Etsy. (If you follow me on IG, you know this already & might as well get used to the candle pix.) The shop is something that felt natural after falling in love with candle-making. A process which is equal parts creativity, patience, concentration, and listening to Billy Holiday. I wanted to make sure the four candles appealed to a variety of scent preferences and aren’t restricted by season. And I am SO FREAKING grateful for everyone who has placed an order in the few short weeks. Y’all rock.
I’ve since added three more candles to the shop to suit your holiday gifting needs (gifts for yourself count!). These are seasonal, warm, and festive. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. I’ve been burning the ‘Forest’ scent nonstop since putting up a miniature Christmas tree. Spoiler alert: everyone in my family is getting one of those this year. (The candle, not the tree. That baby is all mine.)
Give good gifts, give candles.
